About the Webinar-Series

The innovationlabs.my webinar series takes place every 2 weeks and is about different, new technologies and how they lead to innovations in practice. There will be two perspectives covering the topic of each week: Researchers provide insight into a technology. Practitioner provide insights into their challenges and how the applied technology can overcome them.

The target group of the webinar are therefore scientists as well as practitioners, such as CEOs or engineers from companies, physicians or urban planners – depending on the topic. Each webinar has its own topic, 2-3 presentations are given and afterwards a Q&A session is used for discussion with the audience. The webinars are free of charge and always take place on a Thursday – only pre-registration is required.

About innovationlabs.my

Innovationlabs.my is a Malaysian-German initiative to promote applied research as well as collaboration between research institutions, universities and companies. The objective is to work together to generate innovations through new key technologies, which only unfold their value in application.

Besides digitization, new key technologies include artificial intelligence and data analytics, the Internet of Things, new types of sensors, robotics and 3D printing. Innovation means the renewal of products, services, business models and processes. These innovations are applied in different areas, such as industrial manufacturing, medicine or cities and their infrastructures. Usually, it is about making things more intelligent, and therefore we discuss Smart Manufacturing, Smart Health or Smart City.

By fostering collaboration, innovations can be generated faster and better adapted to the application. For that, two belonging innovation labs accelerate as a nucleus the collaboration between manufacturing companies, medical facilities or cities and talented researchers as well as students in Malaysia and Germany.

Calibration of Measurement Devices - Conventional and with Artificial Intelligence

Calibration of Measurement Devices – Conventional and with Artificial Intelligence
Industry 4.0 deploys a wide variety of sensors to monitor various parameters along the manufacturing processes and environment supervision. Instrument calibration enables the manufacturing units to have confidence in the results that they monitor, record and control. If the instruments are not calibrated, they will produce incorrect measurements, thus affecting the final products. Companies who take their responsibility seriously and wish to establish long-term business relationships therefore need to calibrate their equipment regularly. Join us to gain insights into the scientific fundamentals concerning the calibration of measurement devices. Both the conventional approach and the new approach by artificial intelligence will be explained! Thursdays with innovationlabs.my ?!

RAMI 4.0 – Revealing the Gist of Industrie 4.0

Industrie 4.0 connects all parties involved in business processes in the manufacturing and process industry. Information from suppliers, customers and within your own company is connected and transparently available. Workpieces and machines manage the production autonomously – flexible, efficient, resource-saving.

An architecture model as reference to build the Industry 4.0 ecosystem is necessary. This model is called Reference Architectural Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0). In this webinar, we will reveal what RAMI 4.0 is, and why it is an important reference architecture for the enterprises, system integrators, network designers and software developers in developing digital systems and solutions for Industry 4.0.

Data Fabric: Developing a unified architecture that helps organizations in managing assets, and optimizing value-chain integration

Data drive values and increase the productivity of manufacturing. However, the data collection from omni-channel operations, such as machines and IoT devices, social media, e-commerce, and enterprise solutions, are usually in high volume, velocity, variability and veracity, and are stored in different places with different formats. Therefore, having an efficient big data management is crucial. Traditional manufacturing enterprises lack the standards, skills, knowledge and technologies to meet these challenges.

Join Dr. Lim YeeMei, the CEO of GMCM, and learn how to manage big data challenges and design the architecture framework for data-driven manufacturing. You will learn from an use case for such instantiation of the architecture, which is a fully automated mini factory that enables individualized production.

Technology and Application of IoT Networks

The availability of affordable and accurate digital sensors and the definition of low power narrow band network technologies have resulted in numerous applications for the Internet of Things (IoT). However, the spread of a massive number of sensor nodes over a potentially large area has some implications on the operational parameters of nodes and networks.

In this webinar, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ansgar Meroth from Heilbronn University of Applied Science in Germany will firstly give an overview on available sensor technologies, and their applications. Secondly, networks such as Narrow Band IoT, SigFox and LoRaWan are explained and compared. Furthermore, we discuss training and education aspects for these technologies in order to enable future engineers to design and apply their own network application.

The seminar is aimed at academics and practitioners who want to start with IoT networks and need an overview on existing affordable technologies.

Precision Medicine in Tissue Engineering

Precision medicine proposes customization of personalized healthcare by providing targeted treatments.

Canonically, tissue engineering has been concerned with recapitulating the cellular microenvironment, with a focus on the extracellular matrix. Extracellular vesicles, and exosomes in particular, are gaining attention for their role in intercellular signalling. Exosomes are particularly appealing for precision medicine because of their ready extraction from various biofluids, their parent-cell dependent composition, and their ability to be engineered to carry a specific cargo.

This webinar will provide a brief overview of Cell Guidance Systems’ methods for exosome purification and characterisation, and highlight some examples of how exosomes have been used in tissue engineering applications. We will also discuss 3D culture applications and current trends in tissue engineering. We will show how to tailor the microstructures and mechanical properties of electrospun scaffolds to obtain desirable cellular interaction.
